Search Engines FirstGov   America's search engine for public government information
     Divided into three sections:  A Keyword Search engine, a directory of general subjects, and a list of links along the left side of the website that consists of several subcategories, such as timely Featured Subjects, U.S. Government, and State and Local Information.

Hardball with Chris Matthews  Maintains some recent video clips of Hardball interviews with politicians and political analysts

Real Clear Politics  A daily compilation of some popular political columns and blogs from newspapers and magazines all over the country; a great way to monitor the pulse of the “Gang of 500.”

Living Room Candidate  Compiles hundreds of campaign ads from 1952 to the present, and even categorizes them by subject and tone!

Project Vote Smart   Aims to educate voters about the candidates, providing biographical information, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances and interest group ratings
 

Unit 4 - The Congress Thomas, by the Library of Congress   This website catalogs every bill introduced on the floor, back to the 101st Congress (1989).  Also cross-indexes every Congressperson to every bill they have sponsored or acted on in committee

CQ Politics  Congressional Quarterly, the non-partisan recorder of everything that happens in Congress, updates this political news website

The Center on Congress   Educational site for studying Congress, created by former Representative Lee Hamilton, a Co-Chairman of the Iraqi Study Group

 

Unit 5 - The Presidency Whitehouse.gov  Official site of the White House, including archives of President Bush’s public statements

Public Papers of the Presidents   This website catalogues all official statements of the presidents, although, unlike the paper copy, it only goes back to George H.W. Bush in 1991
 

Unit 6 - The Bureaucracy The Federal Register   Includes all rules and proposed rules of the federal bureaucracy since 1994, as well as executive orders from the head of the bureaucracy, the President
 

Units 7 and 8 - The Supreme Court, civil liberties and civil rights

 
U.S. Supreme Court Media by Oyez  Supreme Court website started by Northwestern students (and Cub fans).  Categorizes all Court decisions by subject area, justice, and era, and even provides some video
