When we give children the opportunity to manipulate color, shape, texture, line, form and space to create their own imagery, we teach them another way to express themselves- a powerful new language of symbol and metaphor.
Painters and poets find their ideas through observation. This skill of perceiving deeply helps develop a heightened perception and creativity. It also contributes to linguistic and communication skills. Visual art is also a powerful tool through which students can learn more complex reading and writing skills. Whether children are excelling or struggling in school, visual arts provide all students with a new way of understanding their world, connecting with others, and expressing themselves.
