Profiler: Jack the Ripper

Introduction

In the fall of 1888, in the middle of the Industrial Revolution, a killer descended on the east end of London. Before he was finished, five women had by brutally murdered. Despite the efforts of the police, this killer was never found. Your job will be to investigate all the evidence connected to this famous case and identify Jack the Ripper

Investigation

Phase 1: Review the information contained on the first page of your casebook about the location of the murders. Answer the questions about London's East End.

Phase 2: Review the background information on the victims in your casebook Complete the comparison chart about the five victims.

Phase 3: Click the "Crime" button to access the post-mortem reports on each of the women. Complete the comparison chart in your casebook.

Phase 4: Click the "Letters" button to access the letters written by the killer. Complete the comparison chart in your casebook.

Phase 5: In your casebook, complete the personality profile sheet in your casebook. Fill in the table and then determine the five character traits of your killer.

Phase 6: Using the final page in your case book, write your five character traits across the top of the chart. Now click the "Suspects" button. Read the profiles of each of these men and generate a list of five "top" suspects.

The Suspects

The Final Phase: Your group will type a one page memo identifying the killer. Your opening paragraph must include a definitive identification of Jack the Ripper. The second paragraph must include the evidence to support this claim. The final paragraph will contain your summation and conclusion.
