Acids and Bases

(return to lesson links)

Site Annotation
Acids, Bases, and Cells This is a straightforward biology/chemistry acid and base experiment that describes the role of acids and bases in our body tissues.  This would be a great way for students to actually see acids/bases in action on living things.
Acid and Base Chemistry WebQuest There are multiple links to a variety of other web sites that intoduce students to the definitions of acids/bases and some real world situations/locations where they are present.  This is essentially a WebQuest that teachers might use for acid/base cooperative learning.  Each student has a task to contribute towards developing a presentation for their fellow students.  This presentation could be making a poster board or PowerPoint presentation with peer evaluations along the way.
Chem 101: Acids, Bases, and Water

This site provides a few in-class demonstrations that may be used to show students how acids and bases interact with one another, along with some basic background information.  A teacher could essentially just pull the procedures for the demonstrations and explain the phenomena as they are occurring in front of the class.
ChemTutor:  Acids and Bases

This site contains all you would ever want your students to know about the basic (no pun intended!) characteristics of acids and bases.  It could be used as an introduction for students where they actually have to go and research different types of information, or it may be useful as a tutorial for students before acid/base quizzes or tests.
