NATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION
The National Student Leadership Foundation hosts a
range of workshops dealing with various careers such as international
diplomacy, medicine, and business. Professionals in the fields will
speak to the participants. Students also will get some hands-on
experiences to learn more about a particular career. They also have the
opportunity to earn three credits from American University. Program

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUMMER PROGRAMS
Experience the USC LIFE! Through their 4 week immersion program,
University of Southern California offers high school sophomores,
juniors, and seniors the opportunity to experience the life of a USC
student. Students are challenged academically in a subject area of
choice while getting to experience living on campus. Students will also
experience a wide array of campus activities such as sports, talent
shows, and dances as well as explore local attractions in the Los

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY OF SCHOLARS SUMMER PROGRAM
This program offers college credit through American University’s School
of International Service and is open to all students entering their
junior and senior years of high school. Held at AU in Washington, D.C.

offering a summer internship and $1,000 scholarship from State Farm
Insurance in conjunction with Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
All graduating high school seniors are welcome to apply. The internship
is full-time (40 hours/week) and lasts eight weeks. Start date is
flexible. Accepted students will be placed at any of the Cook County
State’s Attorney’s Office locations in Chicago or Cook County suburbs.
The deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 4th,
2011. Winners will be selected and notified by March 25th,
2011 and recognized at the State’s Attorney’s Asian Pacific American

THE SMITHSONIAN LATINO CENTER YOUNG AMBASSADORS PROGRAM
The Young Ambassadors Program is a national, interdisciplinary
leadership program for high school students gifted in the arts,
sciences, or humanities. The mission of the program is to foster the
next generation of Latino leaders. The program consists of two
components: 1) a one-week, all expenses paid training seminar at the
Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and 2) a paid internship at
a recognized museum or cultural organization in local communities across
the United States and Puerto Rico. 24 graduating high school seniors
with an interest and commitment to the arts, sciences, or humanities
surrounding Latino culture are selected for the program. These students
will travel to Washington, D.C. for a week of training and leadership
seminars. The training provides exploration and deeper understanding of
Latino culture through visits to the Smithsonian’s Latino collections
and individualized interactions with anthropologists, artists, curators,
historians, and scientists. Following the training seminar, students
participate in a four-week interdisciplinary education internship in
museums and other cultural institutions. Upon completion of the
five-week program, students will receive a $2,000 stipend. For more

PROGRAM
On this program, you will have a
unique opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of Costa Rican culture by
living with host families and enjoying exciting organized excursions.
The program includes round-trip air fare from Chicago, host family
accommodations with full board (three meals per day), full medical
insurance, local support, full schedule of activities and excursions,
full-time group leader, and passport application fees. There is no cost
to scholarship recipients, except for spending money. Participants must
be between 15 and 17 years old, have 1 or 2 years of high school
Spanish, sincerely interested in cultural exchange and willing to learn

THE UNIVERSITY OF
CHICAGO SUMMER LANGUAGE STUDY
The
University of Chicago offers a great summer language program for high
school students. Students choose from one of fourteen languages
offered: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Greek (Classical),
Hebrew (Modern), Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Persian, Portuguese,
Russian, and Spanish. Students can earn up to a year’s worth of
language credit and gain an edge for language requirements and placement
exams. Classes are taught by distinguished faculty and students can
take advantage of the University of Chicago’s State-of-the-Art Language
Center. The Language Study Program runs from June 20-August 19, 2011.

THE UNIVERSITY OF
CHICAGO SUMMER PROGRAMS
The University of
Chicago also offers a wide variety of other programs for high school
students. Each program varies in duration, cost, etc, allowing students
to pick the program that is right for them. Students can earn college
credit, learn from experienced professors and lecturers, and meet other

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY ARCHITECTURE CAMP 2011
Learn all about architecture and what goes into designing and
constructing a building. At SIU Architecture Camps, students learn
various aspects of the architecture profession including: designing,
applying, sketching, constructing, and modeling, plus so much more.
Camps also include a field trip to St. Louis. Students get a very

LOYOLA UNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM JUNIOR VOLUNTEER SUMMER PROGRAM
This is a valuable experience for anyone interested in the health-care
field of work. The Junior Volunteer Summer Program begins with an
orientation session to familiarize students with the Loyola University
campus, the medical center organization, and safety, fire, and infection
control procedures. Then students volunteer one day a week (for a total
of 60 hours) through a series of service rotations. These rotations
provide students with exposure to the different health-care
environments. The rotations also provide training in specific areas.
Students are continuously coached and supervised providing valuable
feedback to the student to aid in their growth and development. The
program gives students a unique inside view of health-care facilities.
