Introduction:

 

Have you ever been on a family road trip, just minding your own business listening to your iPod, when your mom or dad insists you turn off the music, get out of the car, and read some stupid plaque about a random historical event? 

 

Your response to this event used to be frustration, annoyance, maybe even anger.  Now that you have been an historian-in-training for more than one-half of a school year, you are beginning to recognize that historical events can actually be interesting.  What’s still much more crucial in your life, however, is a break from the daily grind of school—especially in the form of a VACATION!
