WHAT TO ASK YOURSELF WHEN LOOKING FOR A DANCE SCHOOL.
- Is
there a dance major and/or dance minor degree, BA, and/or a BFA in
dance?
- Do they have open
enrollment or do you have to be a dance major to take the major level
courses?
- Do they have a
graduate program? This usually offers more performing
opportunities and a great resource to learn about audtions,
resume building. Often dance graduates have successfully completed
a professional career in dance performance or choreography.
- How many performances
do they have a year? What kind of productions- home concerts, full
length ballets?
- Do they offer a good
variety of dance classes- ballet, modern, pointe,
choreography, pedagogy, partnering, improv?
- How many classes are
offered a week? A good dance program will require a ballet class
every day!
- Do they offer master
dance classes with quest artists? Is there a dance company in
residence on campus?
- Does the campus
theatre bring in outside dance companies?
- What is the reputation
of the school? Is there someone you can talk to or ask?
- What are you
"gut" feelings about the program?
- Once you have visited
the school could you picture yourself in that space? How did it
make you feel?
